MID-TERM NEWSLETTER 2021/2022

Dear Esteemed Parents,

Finally, we have come to the end of the first half of Term 1, 2021/2022 session. On behalf of the Management, I want to thank you for the immeasurable support you have given so far. We also thank our learners for adapting so easily to the changes as we bring them on board. It is with excitement that we boldly say your partnership with us has been an awesome experience.

Teaching and Learning

We have continued to add spices to our teaching and learning by using more inclusive learning to impart knowledge. This method of teaching has enabled us to reach out to every child, regardless of his or her learning abilities. Our teachers have received series of trainings to ensure these are applied in imparting knowledge in their classes.

Introduction of Primary 6 Cambridge Checkpoint Examination

This is to inform you that starting from 2021/2022 session, Primary Checkpoint examination is now compulsory for our pupils in Year 6. The aim of checkpoint tests is to provide a cumulative measure of performance at the end of the primary learning phase in order to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses from test-result analysis and address learning needs. We have also taken this major step to enable us obtain an international benchmark of learner performances. We shall give more details during our Upper Primary Parents’ Forum which will be held in due course.

School Fees

We wish to thank you for continued commitment in paying the school fees of your children / wards despite the economic hardship. It is our prayers that God will continue to provide for you all.

Clubs and Societies

Club and Societies have been so rewarding. We ensured our pupils and students learn new skills in their various clubs. We appreciate the Management for donating club polo shirts to serve as our club day uniform. Please note that Club Day for Primary is Thursday, while that of Secondary is Friday. On this note, it is important to let you know that club and societies are co-curricular activities meant to improve the learning experiences of the students and not to be treated as extra-curricular.

Skill acquisition Saturday

Our Saturdays have been so exciting for our students and pupils who registered for skill acquisition. They look forward to the football, swimming, basketball and lawn tennis training. We have a lot more lined up to be acquired through leather works (making of sandals, belts and bags), sewing and culinary. We implore you to enrol your children / wards now so that they can also experience skill acquisition in a unique way.

Ankara Day

We have tagged one day in every term our Ankara Day. It is a day we have set aside to promote our cultural heritage by reminding our children that there is strength in language, just like there is unity in diversity. Our children attended school on Friday 29th October, 2021 dressed in Ankara of gorgeous and unique styles. There were dance and poetry recitations in Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa languages. It was a unique experience for them.

Introduction of short-term boarding and Primary school boarding

Being in the hostel has been a beautiful experience for our boarders, as they are groomed and guided to be responsible, independent and leaders of tomorrow. Our boarding is also open to our Primary school pupils who may want to have an idea of what living in the boarding house feels like.

Furthermore, in order to address the needs of some parents who may, for one reason or the other, want to bring their children to the hostel for a short period of time, we have also decided to introduce short term boarding to provide such convenience without having to pay the full boarding fee. The short-term boarding fees are open to children in the both Primary and Secondary as follows:

Full term boarding fee – N350, 000

After midterm – N200,000

Monthly boarding – N150,000

Two weeks boarding – N80,000

One week – N50,000

The facilities in our hostel include spacious and fully air-conditioned rooms, internet services, assorted cuisines, to mention a few.

Discipline

Discipline is a very important aspect of a child’s education without which learning will be difficult. In order to encourage good character in the school, we introduced value-based education, through which we treat topics that will enhance the virtues in our children. The living value for the month of September and October has been DOCILITY. Sub topics like Focus, Preparedness, Responsibility and Obedience were derived from the main topic and treated in detail.

Attendance and Punctuality

We encourage all our parents to drop off their children/wards not later than 7.30am daily. We have enriched assembly programmes that cover all aspects of a child’s intellectual and behavioural development. A child who misses out on assembly programmes is missing out on current affairs, student advisor’s one-on-one mentoring, gender talk, living value education and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE). Punctuality will give them the right mindset for the day’s activities.

Mid-term Break

The school will observe a three-day Mid-term break which will commence on Wednesday 3rd November, 2021 and end on Friday 5th November, 2021. Boarders are expected back in the hostel on Sunday, 7th November, while classes will resume on Monday 8th November 2021.

Mid-term Projects

The midterm projects which are part of the term’s assessment has been assigned to students. They will be due for submission on Wednesday 10th November, 2021.

Health Care Delivery – Plans for Term 2

In addition to the School’s Sick Bay, especially when special attention is needed, we have decided to provide pupils and students’ accessibility to our hospital, Mayfield Specialist Hospital for treatment of basic ailments such as malaria fever, typhoid fever, cold, diarrhoea, minor injuries, and even conducting laboratory tests such as withal, malaria, urinalysis, abdomino-pelvic scan, X -ray, Bi-annual free eye test. etc.

All the above will be provided at a very affordable price. It is a way of ensuring the health care of all our learners anytime the need arises whether they are in school or at home.
